We know how difficult it will be to knock Fleet out - Ward

Thursday 29th October 2009
RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward says his side face a difficult task to knock Fleet Town out of the FA Carlsberg Trophy on their own patch on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Andy Sinton’s side have won their last five games and have only conceded two goals on the slope at Calthorpe Park, and Ward expects a tough second qualifying round tussle.

“When we played them first game of the season, we were lucky enough to beat them 1-0,” recalled Ward, when speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk at lunchtime today.

“But it was a good game, they play a very attacking formation and they like to get the ball forward.

“We’re on a good run, it’s got a makings of a good cup tie.”

Fleet are presently in fourth place in the Ryman League Division One South table, having lost just once at home in the league, but Ramsgate are also on good form, although their position is slightly lower, in eleventh place.

“We’ve won four out of five and should have drawn the one we’ve lost,” added Ward.

“They’ve only let in two goals in all season on their pitch, it’s a tough ask without a doubt.

“We know exactly how difficult it’s going to be, we’ll go there and be positive.

“Kenny Pratt and Gary Mickelborough (our strikers) are both flying at the moment – it might be the turn of the defenders to get on something.  We work on set-pieces and it’s about time we started to get rewards for it.”

With £3,000 up for grabs in prize money for the Football Association, winning this tie, either away or at Southwood Stadium next Tuesday, will present a very lucrative week for the Thanet club.

“We had Ramsgate’s annual golf day yesterday, which raised a few grand for the club and tomorrow night we’ve got Fright Night, fireworks, which has been going on for a few years at the club – and the icing on the cake would be the FA Trophy (prize money) – so financially it could be a good week for the club.

Will Graham (ankle), Sam Jones (thigh) and Andy Hadden (one-match ban) have been ruled out.
