We know what we've done wrong at St Albans, says Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow says he wants supporters to create a hostile atmosphere for their re-match against St Albans City on Saturday.

The Saints knocked the Kent club out of The FA Cup in the Third Qualifying Round with a 2-1 win at Clarence Park back in October and the two clubs meet again in The FA Trophy First Round at Longmead Stadium on Saturday.

The Angels climbed up to sixteenth-place in The Skrill (Conference) South following their shock 2-1 win at league leaders and full-time outfit Eastleigh last Saturday.

Warrilow’s side have collected 15 points from 13 games and have a two point cushion between them and the relegation zone, but on the other side of the coin they are only ten points adrift of fifth-placed side Basingstoke Town, with two games in hand.

Warrilow said: “They say a week’s a long time in football.

“The previous Saturday we walked off the pitch against Sudbury disappointed to let in a late equaliser and in the space of a week we get a win at their place in the return game and go to Eastleigh and get a win there.

“It shows what football’s all about – it’s about ups and downs!

“We have to build on it."

The Angels sealed a morale-boosting victory at Easleigh courtesy of goals from Shamir Goodwin and Sonny Miles.

“To go a man down after about a minute was testament to all the boys. Every single one of them got behind the ball and done their jobs.

“We could have put the free-kick in the corner with two minutes to go, but we whipped it in and got the winner, so I’m delighted and hopefully we can build on that this weekend.”

St Albans City, who beat won 4-1 at Chatham Town in the last qualifying round of The FA Cup, went on to lose 8-1 at home to League Two side Mansfield Town in the First Round.

Since then, however, they have won four and lost one of their last five games in all competitions.

The Saints play one level below Tonbridge Angels and arrive in Kent sitting in ninth-place in the Calor (Southern) Premier League table, with 27 points from fifteen games.  They are two points behind fifth-placed Poole Town.

“I want to beat any side, not just St Albans,” said Warrilow.

“It’s a Trophy game, we’re at home this time. I’d like the fans to come down and be nice and positive and get behind the players and make it a hostile atmosphere for the away side to play in.

“We know what we’ve done at St Albans, I’m not going to drag that up again.

“The last three performances we’ve put a little run together. We’ve not lost any games and we go into it in a nice, positive frame of mind.

“We know what we’ve done wrong at St Albans so we have to make sure we don’t go down that road again.

“We had a few players that wasn’t at the races on that day – not just one or two – for some reason or another so we’ll have to look at how we set-up.

“Everyone’s available for selection. When we played St Albans we had players under the weather. Lee Browning had to come off but I’m not going to use that as an excise – we’ve got everyone fit.

“I’m hoping the camp should be in a buoyant mood and looking to go into this game in a positive frame of mind.”

The Angels scooped £4,000 in prize money after beating AFC Sudbury in the last round (plus a share of gate receipts from two games) and will scoop another £5,000 should they get past St Albans City.

Warrilow said: “When the draw came out, I thought it was ironic that we drew St Albans again but at the same time I’m not going to lie. If we get past Sudbury first it was another winnable game.

“We could push on a little Trophy run. I always go into every game believing we can win them. My philosophy is never going to change in that respect.

Reflecting on their league campaign, the Angels boss said: “We’ve got a couple of games in hand on teams above us and there’s not a lot of points between us.

“I just don’t want over reaction to every result. I want to get our heads down and have a really good December and see address where we are after January 1st and pick up a bit of momentum, which I’m hoping we’ll do after the good week we’ve just had.”
