We'll be prepared for Potton Cup clash, insists O'Boyle

ERITH TOWN manager Steve O’Boyle has vowed that his side shall bounce back from their opening Bulmers Cider Kent League defeat of the season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 31-year-old, who rapidly replaced Mark Tompkins at the helm last week, only had one training session to prepare for their first league game, a 2-1 home defeat to an impressive Greenwich Borough side a couple of nights ago.

A stunning strike from Marcus Cassius, who scored 19 goals last season, wasn’t enough as Boro’ scored two goals through an early Ryan Watts goal and an injury time winner from Joseph Ogoo.

However, O’Boyle, 31, goes into Saturday’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Potton United at Bayliss Avenue with more time to work with his squad.

And he admits that he needs to do some homework on the Bedfordshire side.

“It’s a massive game, obviously I don’t know nothing about them but I’ll do as much homework as I can this week on it,” O’Boyle told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“We’re going into the unknown, like we were (against Greenwich Borough).”

The former Thamesmead Town reserve team manager, and very brief Holmesdale coach, is boosted with the return of Adam Heaslewood, who missed their opening league game through work commitments.

And an old face is expected to be available for the first stage of the FA Cup - Danny Beaszant, who was one of 56 players to wear the club’s colours last season.

“Hopefully Danny Beaszant’s going to sign as well so hopefully he’ll be available for Saturday - he was here last season,” revealed O’Boyle.

“These couple of boys will make the squad stronger.”

The Dockers’ opening Bulmers Cider Kent League game of the season against local rivals Greenwich Borough attracted a crowd of 113 to Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead - the venue of their home matches for the next two seasons.

It was the club’s largest home attendance in the league since VCD Athletic’s visit to their old ground at Erith Sports Stadium, on a Monday night back in September 2007.
