We'll give our wonderful fans something to cheer about, vows Lovell
Speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after his side's midweek Championship Manager League Cup exit to Tilbury, the Ashford boss said, "It was important for us to get 90 minutes in tonight, as we needed the game as Burgess Hill is always a tough place to go.
“I think the last three or four times we've played there we've come home with a point and if that happens Saturday I'll be pleased!"
"It’s a compact ground unlike here at Homelands, so we'll have to work hard especially as we are used to the wide open spaces here, but with the league still so ridiculously tight, we also know that three or four wins and you're right up there. I just cannot explain how ridiculously open the league is."
After gaining their first away point of the season in their last away game at Chatham Town, Lovell admitted, "We've got to build on that point, and give our long suffering fans something to cheer about.
“The performances are getting better and if we can just turn them into wins everyone will be happy - even the chairman!"
Saturday will be Ashford's tenth away game of the Ryman One South season - a point that Lovell was quick to seize on.
"When we travel, nine times out of ten we're playing on compact ground - like we are on Saturday!
"OK - truthfully we know that that doesn't suit our game. But we've just got to get on with it, and hope that the wonderful fans that will travel with us finally get something to cheer about.
“They all know the problems that we've been through in the summer, and to their eternal credit, they've stuck by us.
“We had a great season last years and only fell away in the past couple of months.
“We knew this year would be difficult - we know what we need to do this season and look forward to the next one.
“Pulling together as a club is a huge help and I do think that the with the fans sticking by us and fully appreciating what we're going through we can come out the other side!"
