We'll go to Ramsgate in good spirits, says Whitstable Town boss Justin Luchford

Monday 19th December 2011
WHITSTABLE TOWN manager Justin Luchford says he wants his side to improve going into the crucial festive programme, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Oystermen sit in the bottom four in the Ryman League Division One South table after winning five and drawing a couple of their 21 games so far.

They were defeated 5-2 by league leaders Bognor Regis Town in their last game and face three Kent derbies over the festive programme.

Whitstable Town travel to Ramsgate (27 December) and then to Maidstone United on New Years’ eve, before welcoming Folkestone Invicta to Belmont Road on 2 January 2012.  All festive games kick-off at 3pm.

“We looked at the fixture programme and said that we need to get through to New Year, get players in, get everyone fit and available, so we’re not overly worried about the fixtures at the moment,” said Luchford.

“We can go out and try a few things, hopefully see a few improvements and if we can improve game-by-game, get these three (games) out of the way, then I think we’ll be fine.”

One player who has blossomed in a struggling side is former Ramsgate striker Stuart Vahid, who has scored thirteen goals for Whitstable.

Luchford said: “He’s our top goalscorer and although he has been struggling with a niggling knee injury, I know which game he’s looking forward to, and that is Ramsgate.

“We’ve got to be physical to play Ramsgate, but we need discipline and stick to our game plan.  I’ve got a team of lads who cannot wait for the Ramsgate game, so we’ll go there in good spirits and give them a good game.”
