We'll have to see what the budgeti and who we bring in, says Welling United boss Jamie Day

WELLING UNITED player-manager Jamie Day says his team walked off the Dartford pitch with their heads held high yesterday.

The Wings lost 1-0 to runners-up Dartford in the Blue Square Bet South Play-Off Final in front of a full-house of 4,088 supporters’ at Princes Park Stadium.

Lee Noble scored the only goal of the game, a stunning, dipping right-footed drive from 25-yards, which gave the diving Craig Holloway no chance to save inside the opening four minutes.

Welling United’s passing game, with Day pulling the strings in the middle of the park, was neat to watch, but Day admitted his side lacked quality in the final third.

The Darts secured promotion back into the top-flight of non-league football for the first time in 26 years’ while Day will prepare his squad for the club’s ninth Conference South campaign next season, after finishing behind Woking and Dartford in the table.

“We’ll have to see what the budget is and who we bring in,” said Day.

“We haven’t really discussed anything yet with the season going along a little bit.  We’ve been left behind a little bit so we need to catch up a little bit on sorting players out for next year and possibly getting new players in.”

Day paid tribute to the club’s supporters, who have backed the club through the good times and the bad over the course of the last two seasons.

“There’s a hardcore of supports who go home and away and we thank them and the supporters that made it to Dartford, a thousand to an away game – I know it’s not far – is a good effort though.

“It was a good atmosphere and a good game to play in.  Obviously we’re disappointed with the end result and no doubt they are as well, but I think they’re proud of the boys what they’ve achieved this ar.

“We’re proud of their support and hopefully it continues next season.”

Meanwhile, the club is delighted to advise that it has successfully completed the formation of a new company Welling United Football Club CIC Limited.

In doing so it has successfully gained all the necessary approvals from both the relevant Fas and League authorities as well as of course the CIC regulator.

A club statement published on www.wellingunited.com said: “The members of Welling United Football Club will shortly be meeting to vote on the proposal to transfer the assets and undertakings to the aforementioned company.

“The members had previously voted in principle in favour of such a transfer but that decision now needs to be ratified.

“If the members vote in favour of the transfer then immediately thereafter the club will make available for purchase 30% of the shares in the newly formed company.

“The target date for completion of the transfer is midnight on 31 May 2012 and the new company will commence trading on 1 June 2012

“Aside from using this bulletin to keep supporters informed we also wish to advise that if you wish to purchase shares in the newly formed company cleared funds will need to be paid into a holding account of the club’s solicitors Leathes Prior.”

As previously advised the minimum investment level will be £450 for a parcel of shares.

If you wish to register an interest in purchasing shares in the newly formed company please send an email to wufcir@taxassist.co.uk.

Meanwhile, Park View Road offers football-starved supporters a chance to watch a couple of Cup Finals this week.

Kent Invicta League outfit Sutton Athletic – who have already lifted the Kent Air Ambulance Challenge Shield this season – face Viewpoint in the Hospitals Cup Senior Cup Final on Tuesday.

And on Friday Pavillion face Phoenix Sports in the Hospitals Cup Junior Section Final on Friday.  Both games kick-off at 7:45pm.

Phoenix Sports, who are based in Barnehurst, are searching for a new first team manager after Scott Saunders stepped down through work commitments.

It has been a rather good inaugural Kent Invicta League for the club. They finished runners-up to Bly Spartans by just two points and they also lost to the Strood based club in the Kent Invicta League Challenge Trophy Final, losing on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Park View Road last month.
