We have reached the nitty-gritty part of the season whereby players just simply must deliver all they have for the cause, says Welling Town boss Danny Wakeling
WELLING TOWN manager Danny Wakeling says he is very much looking forward to their FA Vase tie against Bedfont & Feltham tomorrow.
The Boots have reached the Second Round of the competition and go into the game sitting in fourth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, with 21 points from 11 games.
Welling Town go into the game high on confidence after beating Sheppey United 3-2 at Bayliss Avenue last weekend.
“Our mentality was back at our maximum last weekend after a small chat pre-game where we made sure everyone from chairman (Kevin Oakes) to players’ attended and fully got the message about our own standards, traits and characteristics. It went well as we played accordingly last week.
“Elyon Marshall Katung looks just right to kick on another level right now.
“He has shown a fantastic level of dignity and application which mirrors his ability level. He has had to stand firm and get his game time from the bench after an injury after scoring against Lordswood recently (having just got back in the side at that time) and when the door opened he has grabbed a shirt with both hands.
“He was unplayable last week against Sheppey United and that attacking trident behind our number nine Joel Thompson which consisted of himself, Adam O’Neill and Luis Montoya gave and showed all of their attributes last week.”
Bedfont & Feltham play their football in the Combined Counties League First Division and arrive at Bayliss Avenue sitting in eleventh-place in the table, having banked 14 points from their 11 games.
Welling Town go into the game as favourites to progress.
“We are very much looking forward to our FA Vase tie tomorrow. Cup football is always knife edge football. We have made good progress in this prestigious competition and we are in the mood to hunt more. We must remain hunters.
“We have to make our mark at this level on a game by game basis and we are built to take this approach, work hard, very hard and be humble.
“If we give everything, we have as a squad per game then we give ourselves a good platform to prosper from.
“It’s the first time both clubs have reached this stage of the FA Vase so both will be hungry to progress. We are extremely keen to keep hunting and climbing and I fully expect to see that in us tomorrow afternoon.”
Wakeling then takes his side to First Division side Holmesdale next Tuesday, 5 November, in the First Round of the Challenge Cup.
“With two cup competitions left our rotation goes out of the window hence making sure we have five players out on dual- registration for game time at present.
“The opportunity to rotate heavily has gone so we have reached the nitty-gritty part of the season whereby players just simply must deliver all they have for the cause. No excuses at all and to be fair, that’s just how I want it and if you’re a genuinely competitive sportsman then you want it like that too.”
