Minnows Welling Town sign star striker Jon Main: I need to get involved again
STAR STRIKER Jon Main has explained why he has signed for Welling Town, a side that play at the lowest level of senior non-league football.
Main, 35, who’s former clubs include VCD Athletic, Cray Wanderers, Tonbridge Angels, AFC Wimbledon, Welling United, Ramsgate, Phoenix Sports and Erith Town, has put pen to paper to sign for the club that are currently in the top five in the Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League Division Three West table.
Manager Richard Dimmock has enticed Main to join him at the Kidbrooke based club, as well central midfielder Dominic Elmes, who played his last game for Southern Counties East Football League First Division side Meridian VP last weekend.
Dimmock, who started the season as Meridian’s manager, has brought Mike Jones with him to join him on the sidelines as his number two.
“Dimmo is a very good friend of mine and he asked for help,” said Main.
“My electrical course finishes next month, which I’ve been doing at weekends for the past 15 months so I now have my Saturday’s free again.
“My Missus likes to go shopping on Saturday, so I’ve read the script and realised I need to get involved again.”
Welling Town were founded in 2014 and play their home games at Kidbrooke Playing Fields, Dursley Road.
The Boots are scheduled Division Two West leaders Old Bromleians tomorrow in the West Kent Challenge Shield Quarter-Finals.
Old Bromleians are managed by former FC Elmstead boss Danny Wakeling.
