WELLING TOWN manager Danny Wakeling says he is dealing with his side’s little wobble.

The club have slipped down to thirteenth-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 25 points from 18 games and have lost their last seven games in all competitions.

“Two games back-to-back at home, suddenly we feel a bit spoilt after an incredible nine weeks away from home,” said Wakeling, whose side lost 2-0 at home to AFC Croydon Athletic last weekend.

“That said, we were able to take a good look at the nine weeks away and last week’s home game and take stock of our progress as a club.

“The net result of taking stock has been the realisation that many clubs of far longer standing and richer traditions than ourselves would move heaven and earth to swap places with us. Club’s with far bigger expectations and under increasing pressure would happily trade places with us.

“That said; We have our own standards to keep and our own levels of all-round club performance that we must always maintain and despite having vast amounts of the ball and control in terms of possession over the last two games, our pride, care and edge in both boxes has been off the boil with a slight air of complacency which has been discussed at length as a management team.

“No way should we have shipped four goals at Greenwich Borough when we played so well and the goal conceded at Holland’s and Blair was from not taking responsibility to set up as we always do to defend the corner which ended up costing us.

“It’s the small things that are being dropped out which have cost us and that’s simply not good enough so we have reset, re-programmed and refreshed where required this week in order to go again.

“A little wobble is ok as long as it’s noted and dealt with before it can become a problem and that’s football, simple as that.

“The players shall return to the mindset whereby we earn every forward pass and opportunity in the final third, where we become reliant on our blistering transitions and flat out work-rate on and off the ball because that’s our DNA. That’s all that is required and it really is as simple as that. No rocket science at all. It really is that simple.”

Wakeling will be keen to return to winning ways when sixteenth-placed side K Sports visit Bayliss Avenue tomorrow.
