Richard Dimmock "off to a great start" at Welling Town
RICHARD DIMMOCK says he has got off to a great start as Welling Town’s manager.
Dimmock has enticed midfielder Dominic Elmes to leave Southern Counties East Football League First Division side Meridian VP to drop four leagues to play for Welling Town, who play in Division Three West of the Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League.
The club’s biggest signing is to bring prolific star striker Jon Main, 35, out of retirement.
However, the pair didn’t play in last Saturday’s West Kent Challenge Shield tie at home to Old Bromleians, where a hat-trick from Lamarl Hubbard sealed a 3-2 win over the Division Two West leaders, whom are managed by former FC Elmstead boss Danny Wakeling.
“Time at Welling Town is good at the moment. The signings of Dominic Elmes and Jon Main are showing the ambitions of where we want to take the club,” said former Meridian VP boss Dimmock.
“Dom wanted to follow myself and Mike Jones and Jon Main. I phoned Jon and told him the project and where we want to take the club and he said to me ‘yes,I will come on board’ and he also will be doing some coaching at the club with the young forwards we have.
“Myself and Mike have been at the club for three or four weeks now. The players’ have been a joy to work with and we played our first game last Saturday. That was a big game against Old Bromleians in the Quarter-Finals of the Cup and we won 3-2, so we’re off to a great start.”
The Boots travel to seventh-placed Bridon Ropes Reserves tomorrow (15:00), who are based at Meridian’s sports complex, for Dimmock’s first taste of Division Three West football.
