It's a great new challenge and a great new project at Welling Town, says newly-appointed boss Richard Dimmock

RICHARD DIMMOCK has explained the reasons behind his decision to drop four levels to manage.

Dimmock recently parted company with Charlton-based side Meridian VP after three years at the helm, leaving the club in the bottom five in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division with a league playing record of six wins and 14 defeats.

“To be honest myself and Mike Jones had taken the club as far as we could with no budget,” said Dimmock following his departure.

“We had far too many injuries and we had a good chat together and we want to go up a level for a new challenge.

“I was appointed three years ago and the club had finished in the bottom two three years’ in a row before I was appointed as manager.  It’s a great club.”

It was therefore a shock when Dimmock and Mike Jones were today appointed the new management team of Welling Town.

Welling Town ply their trade at the lowest tier of Andreas Carter Joma Kent County League football and are presently fifth of 14 teams with a league playing  record of 8 wins, two draws and three defeats and are 11 points adrift of Division Three West league leaders Sydenham Sports.

“We got the offer from (chairman) Kevin Oakes and we liked what he had to offer,” said Dimmock, who takes over from Erron Baxter.

“It’s a great new challenge and it’s a great project. Kevin wants to get up the leagues as quick as possible and he wants to take the club through like Sheppey United have over the last five years.

“I thank Kevin for giving myself and Mike Jones this chance to be a part of a big project.”

Welling Town were founded in 2014 and play their home games in Kidbrooke at Kidbrooke Playing Fields, Dursley Road.
