I’ve enjoyed the season so far and we are settling just fine. We need a tweak in and around the final third to push on but generally we’ve been good to be honest, says Welling Town boss Danny Wakeling
WELLING TOWN manager Danny Wakeling says his side will give it a good go at Erith Town in The Buildbase FA Vase First Qualifying Round tomorrow.
The Boots are in fourteenth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division, having collected five points from as many games.
Adam Woodward’s Dockers, meanwhile, are a couple of places lower, having banked three points from their four league outings.
“I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow. I owe Woody a phone call from last week so at least I can see him in person tomorrow,” said Wakeling, whose side have lost 2-1 at home to Tunbridge Wells and were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Greenwich Borough.
“I’ve enjoyed the season so far and we are settling just fine. We need a tweak in and around the final third to push on but generally we’ve been good to be honest.
“We’ve been done by two outrageous goals from crosses the last two games, the kind you only expect to concede once every five years, let alone back-to-back games but we are just fine at the moment.
“That’s cost four points being brutally honest but we are ok in the main. The only game we’ve been disappointed with was the FA Cup tie 4-1 loss at home to AFC Uckfield Town but we’ve moved things around since then and have removed a weaker link or two and tightened up accordingly and a happier camp as a result.
“We go into tomorrow’s game missing Gary Beckett, Jack Fenton, Dennis Agbudume, Joel Thompson, Ollie Milton with injuries plus Tobi Odusanya and Tuesday’s goal scorer Carl Oblitey absent with family and work commitments respectively.
“We have managed to get one player in prior to the deadline and have another going through ahead of our next league game on Tuesday night away at Punjab United.
“Ok top of that we have good faith in our depth and pool of talent at Second XI level and we have Elyon Marshall Katung back in the ranks so no grumbling our end, we know our men will give it a good go.”
