Welling United auction gives winning bid a place in the team
Wednesday 08th June 2011
WELLING UNITED are auctioning off a place in the team to face Charlton Athletic and Gillingham to raise funds for Jamie Day’s playing budget, writes Stephen McCartney. The Wings open their pre-season campaign with the annual curtain raiser against Charlton Athletic on Saturday 9 July – and welcome Gillingham to Park View Road on Wednesday 27 July.
To play with the Wings all you need to do is bid in this auction and if you are the highest bidder you can play in one of the matches against either Charlton Athletic or Gillingham.
This Auction was one the many ideas that supporters had to boost Day’s playing budget and was agreed by both owner Barrie Hobbins and the player-manager.
Day, who revealed last month that his budget has been cut, said: “Yes, it would be a good experience for that person to be involved in the set-up for the game to see what the players go through on a game day.
“Any idea in raising money which benefits the club is a good one and I just hope no one gets injured.”
To make your bid, visit the fans’ forum at www.wellingunited.activeboard.com/t43012177/player-wanted and send a private message to Ron Manager.
Terms and conditions:
1) You must be aged between 18-60 and physically fit
2) You have until 23:59pm on Monday 4 July 2011 to make your bid
3) The club doesn’t accept any responsibility for any personal injuries to yourself
A club statement on the official website www.wellingunited.com said: “You will not only receive Legendary Status, but a signed ball, a photo with your new team, the whole match day experience from beginning to end. Plus you will get a game but the length of time you’ll get on the sacred turf is down to Jamie’s discretion.
“Who knows, you may even get signed!”
When asked about making progress in the summer transfer market, Day said: “There’s no news on players, hopefully speaking to a couple next week.”
