We'll try to bring a nice brand of football to Bromley, says Murray Jones

BROMLEY assistant manager Murray Jones says he will bring an attractive brand of football to Hayes Lane, writes Stephen McCartney.

Manager Mark Goldberg has returned to the club for a third spell and they kick off their new Blue Square Bet South campaign with a trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday, before welcoming Boreham Wood to Hayes Lane next Tuesday (7:45pm).

When asked about pre-season, Jones, 46, said: “It’s been a very, very enjoyable pre-season.  We’ve had to look at a few players coming in, the squad has changed around and we’ve added players to the squad.  We think we’ve improved the squad there.  It’s been a great work ethic with everyone.  Overall, we’ve enjoyed it.  We think it’s been a fruitful pre-season for us.”

Looking ahead to the trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough, now managed by Mark Harper, Jones is expecting a tough game against a physical outfit.

He said: “Always a difficult game, always a difficult game over at Hampton & Richmond.  They’ve changed their manager so Alan Devonshire has moved on.  A new manager comes in with new expectations at the club.”

Murray added: “But we feel in good form at the moment.  We feel in confident form.  We finished up with a couple of games against professional clubs (Crystal Palace and Chelsea) and we got a lot out of the games – so we go there in a good, confident mood and hopefully on the day we can put in a good performance.”

Bromley then welcome Boreham Wood to Hayes Lane next Tuesday and Jones wants to turn on the style in front of their own fans.

“The first important thing is Saturday, the first game, and then the games come very, very quickly,” said Jones.

“Boreham Wood come to us, it’s our opening home game.  We want to play well and we feel home form will be important.  We want to attract a good crowd, a good vibe down at Hayes Lane, make it a good place to come to and we want to play attractive football, but at the end of the day it’s about picking up points – again, hopefully on the back of a good performance at Hampton we’ll be in a good place and looking to put in a good performance against Boreham Wood.

When he was asked about the player that he has high hopes for this season, Jones, who also runs the club’s academy said, “Well, I think it’s about a team.  It’s about a work ethic of the team.  I’m not going to sit here and highlight every player as we’ve got some very young players and experienced players.

“We think this year the team ethic, team morale, is very good and if we can keep that going some of the players will play a very important part but it will be about what the team produces on a weekly basis.”

And when asked about the club’s aspirations for the season ahead, Jones added: “Our aspirations are to maintain and consolidate within the Blue Square Conference South, to pick up as many points as we can, try and give these younger players as we go and move forward, try to improve them as players and try to bring a nice, attractive brand of football to Bromley Football Club and hopefully we can pick up enough points along the way.”
