We'll win if we play well at Walton Casuals, says Faversham assistant Clive Walker

FAVERSHAM TOWN assistant manager Clive Walker says it will be great to have a run in The FA Carlsberg Trophy this season, writes Stephen McCartney. The Lilywhites are on the road to fellow Ryman League Division One South side Walton Casuals in the Preliminary Round on Saturday.
Faversham are in fourteenth place in the table with four wins and a draw from their nine league outings, although their Surrey opponents sit two places below them with two wins and three draws from eleven games.
“It will be good to get through that round to get a bit of money in really,” said Walker, knowing the winners will bank £2,000 in prize money.
“They’ve had not the best of starts but they’re capable of beating anybody as a couple of their results have proven.
“It’s much of a muchness on the day really. If we play well you’ve got 90% chance of winning if you play well. It’s as simple as that really!”
Basement side Crawley Down were defeated 2-0 at Salters Lane in midweek, courtesy of goals from Aaron Quain and Tom Hickman.
“I thought it was hard first half, they played alright but second half I thought we played well and deserved the win. It’s good to keep a clean sheet as well. We probably could have got a couple of more in the second half.
With plenty of league games still to play, Walker knows Faversham are good enough to climb the table, especially as they finished as the highest placed Kent side in their inaugural campaign in the division last term.
Walker said: “How many games have we played? Nine! We’ve played nine games and I’m not really bothered (about our league position) to be honest. String a couple of wins together you’re up the top, lose a couple you’re down at the bottom.”
Quain (knee) and Adrian Stone (groin), who have scored eight goals between them, will be assed prior to the game after coming off as a precautionary measure in midweek - and Walker is pleased with Stone’s contribution following his summer move from Tonbridge Angels.
“He’s done alright, a different type of forward that we’ve had here before. He holds the line well,” added Walker.
