We look to go further in the FA Vase this year, vows Beckenham boss Jason Huntley

BECKENHAM TOWN manager Jason Huntley says his side must take advantage of being at home when they face Peacehaven & Telscombe in the FA Carlsberg Vase on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Beckenham go into the Second Round tie sitting in third place in the Safety Net Associates Kent League table with 22 points from 10 games.

Their opponents arrive at Eden Park Avenue sitting in eighth place in the top flight of the Sussex County League table - with seven wins and four draws from 16 league games.

Huntley, who was speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk says his side must take advantage of home comforts to reach the third round for the second successive season.

“We’ll be fully up for that but we can’t ask for no more than what they’re doing at the moment,” said Huntley.

“It’s a good draw if you get home advantage. It’s a very good draw so we’ll look forward to the game.  That’s a winnable game for us.  It’s a tough game, don’t get me wrong, but being at home you’ve got to fancy your chances.”

Last season’s FA Carlsberg Vase run ended in the third round last December, crashing to a disappointing 3-2 away defeat to Tiptree United, after they were reduced to nine-men following a 22-man brawl, which even saw four home fans jump the perimeter fencing.

“We look to go further this year,” added Huntley on his side’s FA Vase chances.

“I said to a few of the boys it’s a great opportunity for them in this because you don’t go a lot higher than your own standard.

“The team that we’ve got this year are a lot stronger than last year.”

Club secretary, Peter Palmer, meanwhile, wants supporters to flock through the turnstiles to see Huntley’s side in action.

“We are having a successful time and managing to maintain our interest in the Cup competition as well as keeping ourselves in the Kent League promotion race,” Mr Palmer told www.beckenhamtownfc.co.uk.

“This is the possibly of some high profile home games to come which helps us build on our attempts to get more local people involved with the club.”
