We must be focused and professional to avoid Cup upset, says Cugley

Wednesday 27th August 2008

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley is expected to be without Andy Pugh and James Corbett for their trip to Sevenoaks Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

Striker Pugh, currently on loan from Coca Cola League Two side Gillingham, may not receive permission to play in the early stages of the competition as Mark Stimson may need him when the first round proper comes long in November.

Ex-Gill, Corbett picked up a tendon injury last night and was substituted after 36 minutes of Invicta’s 1-0 win at Kent rivals Sittingbourne.

A tight game was settled by James Dryden scoring his second goal in as many games with just thirteen minutes remaining.

Byron Walker is expected to be drafted into the starting eleven for the Cup clash at Greatness Park, against Bulmers Cider Kent League outfit Sevenoaks Town.

The Oaks have won once and lost two of their opening three games this season, but Cugley expects his side to book a home Kent showdown against their Ryman Premier League neighbours Ramsgate in the first qualifying round in two weeks time.

“They’ll obviously work their nuts off and we’ve got to do that (perform as they did against Sittingbourne) again,” Cugley told www.kentishfootball.co.uk last night.

“We do work hard, defensively we did look strong tonight, which is pleasing, but you never know in the FA Cup, do you?

“I had those good days at Ashford and it’s a great competition. When you get knocked out it’s horrible so you want to stay in it as long as possible.

“We’ve had them watched, they’ll be up for it.

“We have been there before, it’s not too bad, don’t mind it, but we won’t use that as an excuse. We just have to be ready, professional and focused for it.”
