We must concentrate on picking up league points, says focused Munday

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Mark Munday wants his side to get their minds on Saturday’s home league game against Dulwich Hamlet, writes Stephen McCartney.
Munday’s men scraped through last night’s FA Cup preliminary round replay, with a late 2-1 win over plucky Kent Leaguers Lordswood at Belmont Road last night.
A relieved Munday, speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk last night said, “To be fair they will be going home tonight gutted that they did not progress to the next round.
“Having said that there were many, many sides on Saturday who got beat by lower league opposition.
“Thankfully, despite a couple of below par performances, we are into the next round and it’s up to us now to up our game.”
Dulwich Hamlet make the trip to Belmont on Saturday on the back of a 2-0 win at Kent League side Sevenoaks Town last night.
Both keepers excelled during the first half of the Greatness Park FA Cup preliminary round replay, but the south Londoners broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when central defender Osa Obamwonyi turned inside the box from a free-kick and drove a shot across goalkeeper Sean Funnell to find the far corner.
Substitute Lamin Ojo wrapped up the victory for the young visitors’ when he converted Alex Tiesse’s low centre in the 76th minute, but Sevenoaks Town manager Simon Jones admitted last night that he rued missed chances.
Munday has told his players that they must be focused against for the league game on Saturday and put their lucrative home first qualifying round FA Cup clash against Carshalton Athletic the following weekend at the back of their minds.
Carshalton Athletic, who play one division higher than the Oystermen in the Ryman Premier League, were rocked this week as news that Hayden Bird has resigned and he has been replaced by caretaker manager Ian Hazel.
“We have Carshalton next and that will be a tough one for us but the lads are more than capable of raising their game and progressing further,” said Munday, sensing a cup upset.
“We are looking forward to it, but first we have Dulwich Hamlet at the Belmont next Saturday in the Ryman League, so the FA Cup will go on the back boiler for a week or so.
“For now we need to be focused just on the league and three points on Saturday.”
