We must find the cutting edge, says Seager
WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Marc Seager is relishing the opportunity of pitting his wits against Tommy Warrilow and his Tonbridge Angels side in the first round of the Kent Senior Cup tomorrow night, writes Stephen McCartney.
Seager takes charge against the Angels for the very first time during the first round clash at the Belmont and wants his side to impress.
“Tonbridge are a big club going well,” Seager told www.kentishfootball.co.uk on the eve of the game. “Tommy’s got a very good side together. I don’t know if he’ll be at full strength. I hope he will be as it’s always a big test.”
In recent years the Kent Senior Cup has been devalued as managers tend to tinker with team line-ups, making numerous changes.
Seager revealed tonight that David Cory, Mark Munday and Rob Thomas will be drafted into the squad as they bid to regain full fitness.
And when asked if Whitstable Town could win the silverware, Seager replied: “It’s very difficult for a club like us as you have the likes of Ebbsfleet (the holders) - Tonbridge, Dover, Ryman Premier sides.
“You look forward to it as a manager as it’s against another Kent side. There’s nothing better than having a Kent derby.
“It’s my first ever game against Tonbridge. It always adds excitement, a cup game in Kent . Hopefully they’ll be a decent crowd tomorrow and I hope Tommy brings down a half decent side, but they’ve got Dover on Saturday so he might use it as a chance to give fringe players a go.”
Whitstable Town have picked up just one point from their last five league games and have slumped to just one place above the drop zone.
Seager takes his side to mid-table side Godalming Town on Saturday and is confident his side can start their climb up the Ryman League Division One South.
“I feel I’m a believe the league table doesn’t lie,” said Seager. “But I’m going to contradict myself and say that’s a false position at the moment.
“We knew this month would be a tough month for us against sides in the top ten and we’ve shown over this month we can match anybody, especially the last two games against Walton & Hersham and Worthing, two games we dominated from start to finish.
“Not only should we have got points from them, we should have got three points.
“The disappointing bit was we’re lacking cutting edge in the final third. I can’t fault the players’ efforts.
“We have turned the corner, the last seven or eight weeks the players have been fantastic and I hope they get their just rewards for their efforts.
“My message to them is to keep playing the way we are, keep doing what we’re doing. We’re playing some great stuff and we look strong and that win is just around the corner.
“I honestly believe my squad’s good enough, once they get that first win, to go on a little run as we’ve seen over the last month, after playing a lot of the top sides, we’ve got nothing to fear.”
