We must improve in both penalty boxes, says Yorath
MARGATE boss Terry Yorath says his side have to improve in both penalty boxes if they’re to avoid dropping out of the Ryman Premier League.
The Blues suffered their fourteenth league defeat of the season at the weekend, as two goals from former Ramsgate striker Shaun Welford helped champions-elect Dover Athletic to a 2-0 win at Hartsdown Park, in front of a bumper gate of 1,339.
Margate have slumped to second-from-bottom in the table and are only one point from safety and are more than capable of surviving the drop - if they improve at both ends of the pitch.
“I was quite pleased with the performance, except in both penalty areas we weren’t quite sharp enough,” Yorath told www.margate-fc.com.
“Attacking wise, we didn’t really look as if we were going to get on the end of anything; defensive wise - from their point of view (it was) two simple goals.
“The football that we played wasn’t bad - I think it equalled theirs.
“But when you’re top of the league and things are going for you, you get the result. When you’re near the bottom of the league you don’t.”
Yorath, who takes his side to sixth placed Canvey Island on Saturday, knows his charges must string a run of victories together in their last eighteen league games, to beat the drop.
He said: “We’ve got to start winning games again - get used to winning. I thought we’ve done it (with the win over Harlow), but we’ve still got a long way to go.”
