We must maintain the right attitude to avoid giant killing - Hessenthaler
Wednesday 23rd September 2009
DOVER ATHLETIC boss Andy Hessenthaler says there’s no chance of his side being knocked out of the FA Cup by Sussex County League minnows East Preston if his side continue to have the right professional attitude, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Kent giants are one point clear at the top of the Blue Square South table after 11 games and have won all six of their games on the lush playing surface at Crabble.
For some reason, Saturday’s opponents East Preston, have played only two league games, picking up one point, and play in the second tier of the Sussex County League.
“We should win, but that’s the problem and that sometimes gets into people’s heads, supporters and players,” Hessenthaler told www.kentishfootball.co.uk ahead of the second qualifying round tie.
“It’s going to be their cup final, they’ll come and enjoy the stadium, enjoy the crowd and enjoy the pitch and will raise their game.
“So it’s a potential banana skin and if we’re not up to it and we just think we’re going to turn up and win this game then we’ll have problems.
“It’s another tough game, it’s a big reward at the end of it, the next round of the FA Cup. Financially it’s good as well.
“On paper we should win, they’ll come here and have nothing to lose and will make it very difficult for us.”
