We must not be casual in front of goal, says Burman

Dartford manager Tony Burman has today revealed the club will be staging a veterans game in the future following last night’s players reunion at Princes Park, writes Stephen McCartney.

He told www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk : “Firstly I would like to thank all the former players who managed to attend the reunion at Princes Park last night for what was a most enjoyable evening.

“It was great to talk over old times and yes, they all told me now I should be running the team and the way forward for the club in the nicest possible way.

“Of course I must admit it did seem strange that every team selection included themselves!

“I think they have gone away so impressed by Princes Park, they have gone and got the boots out this morning to give them a clean and I can just sense a vets game coming on.”

Burman admitted his side dropped two points during their goal-less draw at Ashford Town on Tuesday night – against a side in the bottom three in the Ryman League Division One South table.

John Cumberbatch’s side were beaten 4-3 at Princes Park on 20th January,  in Dave Martin’s final game for the club before his move to Crystal Palace – the most thrilling game played in Kent this season.

Burman said: “After their performance at Princes Park we all felt it was going to be a tough game on Tuesday night and maybe a draw would not be a such a poor result before the game started.

“After the game finished I have to say it was two points dropped simply because of the amount of possession and chances we created.

“Converting chances have been one of our main strengths this season but on Tuesday we did not get enough of them on target.

“The players’ attitude and commitment which may of the fans have appreciated has been excellent and it will be no different.”

Basement boys Corinthian-Casuals, a side that have won only five times this season, visit Princes Park tomorrow in a game the Darts must win.

“We have got to try and win the game and not think about what other teams are doing,” said Burman.  “It is what we do that matters.”

Midfielder Eddie McClements, meanwhile, will have a fitness test before tomorrow’s game.
