We must put pressure on the sides above us, insists Langton
ASHFORD TOWN assistant manager Hugo Langton remains hopeful that his side can still sneak into the Ryman League Division One South play-off’s at the end of the month, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Nuts & Bolts defeated fifth placed side Worthing 2-0 at Homelands at the weekend, a result that leaves them eight points adrift of the Sussex side with only 12 points up for grabs.
Langton, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk this lunchtime, knows his side must collect maximum points from their last four games, against Corinthian-Casuals, Folkestone Invicta, Eastbourne Town and league leaders Kingstonian to stand any chance.
“We have four games to go and we’re eight points off it, and we obviously want to win all four,” he said.
“If we do this, then the pressure is on the likes of Worthing and the Met Police to win their games, but if they wobble then we want to be breathing down their neck.
“There have been some unbelievable results lately that have gone against the form book and there are some massive games coming up for everyone.
“The teams in the mix still have to play each other, and all we can do is try and take twelve points and we won’t give up until it becomes impossible.”
Langton was delighted with the 2-0 win over Worthing at the weekend, which they won courtesy of goals from Paul Jones and Anthony Browne.
“It was fully deserved and the players went out and put on a terrific performance,” praised Langton.
“When we settled down in the first half, we played some terrific football. For about half an hour, Worthing couldn’t get near us and could not get the ball off us.
“Our second goal was sheer quality, the passing in the build up play was absolute class.
“We perhaps should have scored more, but 2-0 was a fair reflection. Defensively we were on the money as we knew what to expect from Worthing and we dealt with all of their long balls and long throws into our box.”
