We must start performing - Daish
Sunday 27th September 2009
EBBSFLEET United manager Liam Daish has admitted he is running out of patience with certain players after his side’s disappointing start to the season, writes Stephen McCartney.
The statistics make grim reading and Tuesday’s home match against Salisbury City is a must-win match for an inexperienced Fleet side that have yet won at Stonebridge Road.
The Fleet are just one place above the Blue Square Premier drop zone with just eight points from their opening thirteen games and relegation to Blue Square South - and the possibility with a Boxing Day clash with Dartford - is a real possibility if Daish’s young side don’t buck their ideas up.
Salisbury arrive at Stonebridge Road having picked up 5 wins and 3 draws from their opening 13 games but the Wiltshire side find themselves in the bottom seven as they were deducted ten points for going into administration.
Salisbury City, Gateshead, Ebbsfleet, Forest Green Rovers, Hayes & Yeading, Grays Athletic and Chester City (who have minus fifteen points due to administration) are the sides on single figure points totals at present.
And the Fleet are finding scoring goals hard to come by - only seven in the league so far (four at Stonebridge Road) and only two in their last six games.
“Things are going to have to change,” Daish told BBC Radio Kent last week. “I need to get players in who are good enough to keep us in this league.
“At the moment one in out of (thirteen) isn’t good enough.
“They’ve got to decide if they’re good enough for this league. If they’re not good enough fine but if they think they’re good enough they’ve got to start showing me and giving me more.
“I need players to either perform now, or bed honest with me and say maybe this level is a bit too much.”
