We need a manager to lift our confidence, says Wilson

MARGATE midfielder Wayne Wilson admits his team-mates lack confidence and are struggling without a manager at the helm.

Margate remain rooted inside the Ryman Premier League relegation zone - five points adrift of safety if you take goal-difference into the equation - as a result of going eight league games without a win.  They  have lost to both AFC Hornchurch and Billericay Town since the departure of their previous management team, Mark Butler and Steve Beeks.

“We’re all massively disappointed,” Wilson told www.margate-fc.com of the current situation at Hartsdown Park.

“We’re trying to pull everyone together - to get everyone fighting together.

“There’s a big massive loss of confidence after we have a little set-back.”

The lack of confidence was an issue that Butler spoke about frequently and that’s been through into sharp focus with the current managerial situation at the club.

Wilson - along with John Keister - believes a manager has to come in as quickly as possible to maintain the club’s Ryman Premier League status.

“We’re part of the team,” said Wilson.  “You have a gaffer to give instructions and you have players to listen.

“When the chips are down, you look for someone to lift you and we haven’t got that; but maybe it’s up to us to do it but we’ve got to try and concentrate on the playing side as well” he said, giving some insight to the challenge faced by player/managers up and down the country.

Reflecting on the last two games, Wilson added: “We’re struggling to deal with the little set-backs at the moment and it’s concerning because you look at the situation we’re in now.  We’re all fighting for our careers and Margate Football Club.”
