We need support from local businesses if we're to push for the title - Deal Town boss Derek Hares

Saturday 21st May 2011
DEAL TOWN are delighted to announce that following a recent board meeting Derek Hares was unanimously re-appointed as manager.

In accepting the invitation to take Deal Town forward in the forthcoming season, Hares praised the hard work that the current Board had put in during the past 18 months to get the club back on track both financially and operationally.

He looked forward to improving his squad for the new season and was hopeful that the current squad members would re-commit to the Kent League club.

The success of the reserve team has resulted in their promotion to Kent League Division One next season and of course they brought silverware to the club in beating Cray Wanderers, the current Division One champions in the Kent Intermediate Cup Final at Whitstable Town’s Belmont Road ground.

“It’s all looking set for a good year,” said Hares.  “But it does need the wholehearted support of local businesses and supporters if we’re ever to challenge for the Kent Premier League title in future.

“Our form in the last two months of the season was that of a top six club and we have to take that form into the start of the new season and build on it throughout the campaign.

“I would like to thank the efforts of Andy Bigginton, my assistant and right hand man who does a fantastic job within the team, Mark Munday, our first team coach, Brenton Duke and Dave Briggs and of course Gary Miller and Tony Ward who have looked after the Reserves so well last season.”

Hares confirmed that his back room team have all committed to working with him again next season, which will add stability and consistency for the year ahead. “

He said: “We are already looking forward to and planning for the start of pre-season training. The introduction of good local players at the end of the last season has encouraged me enormously and I invite any other local players who believe they have the ability and the commitment to come along to pre-season training and fight for a place in the team.

“We will be announcing the date of the start of pre-season training in the next week or two in the local press and on our web-site.”
