We need to ask ourselves some serious questions about why we're very poor at present, says Palmer

BECKENHAM TOWN secretary Peter Palmer says he is disappointed with the way that the club has slumped down the Kent League table in recent weeks, writes Stephen McCartney.
Jason Huntley’s side are on a miserable run of winning only one of their last six league games, and the long serving secretary is clearly upset that the Eden Park Avenue outfit have fallen off the rails and go into the Easter period in ninth place in the table.
“We are poor, very, very poor at present - not even good enough to compete in the reserve divisions, lets alone the Premier division,” Mr Palmer told www.beckenhamtownfc.co.uk.
“It’s proving an immensely disappointing end to the season and it’s beginning to take the gloss from some of the season’s bigger and better occasions.
“When we were at full strength and at our best we showed we could successfully compete not only against Kent League clubs but club’s from higher levels of the non-league pyramid. We have fallen back a very long way since then.
“There are people who work very hard for this club, myself included. None of them allows their standards or input to fall.
“It’s not good enough! Things are financially tough for non-league club’s at present, possibly as bad as they have ever been. You have to maintain your standards on and off the field - we haven’t!
“We need to ask ourselves some serious questions about how the present situation has been allowed to develop and ensure it never happens again.”
Beckenham’s last home game of the league season sees eleventh-placed Corinthian visit Eden Park Avenue on Easter Saturday, before Huntley takes his side to champions-elect Hythe Town on Easter Monday and to fourth-from-bottom side Deal Town on 30 April. All games kick-off at 3pm.
