We need to play more of the football we're capable of, says Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley admits to feeling grumpy at home after suffering a shock home defeat against Three Bridges at the weekend.

Invicta have suffered back-to-back home defeats, going down to a 1-0 defeat to Burgess Hill Town in the FA Trophy replay, before losing 2-1 to Three Bridges during the past week.

“We’d all forgotten what it’s like to lose at home on a Saturday,” Cugley told www.folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk.

“My wife Pauline hasn’t had to put up with me being that grumpy on a Sunday since Chipstead beat us here last season.”

Cugley added: “We’ve got to stick to playing our football.

“We had a couple of good spells, hit the bar and scored the best goal of the game – but we need to play more of the football we are capable of.  We’ve got to have more about us against teams like that.

Cugley was impressed with Bridges’ striker Tony Garrod, who scored the winning goal with fourteen minutes left.

“They’ve got some good players too.  I tried to sign Garrod a couple of times when he was at Dartford,” revealed Cugley.

Cugley takes his side to Redhill on Tuesday night.

The Surrey side are in the bottom five in the Ryman League Division One South table, having won six and drawn three and lost ten in the league this term.

Cugley said: “I’m hoping (the pitch) won’t be quite as heavy at Redhill or at Faversham this weekend.  We now need at least four points from those two games to keep us where we want to be in the table.”

Midfielder Jordan Wright looks certain to return after missing the weekend’s defeat but his stand-in and recent signing Ronnie Dolan may well keep his place.

Cugley said: “It’s a little bit worrying how much we missed a young lad like Jordan but he's been outstanding for us recently and he does run at players and that was something we perhaps did not do enough of. That said, Ronnie played well and scored a good goal – his second in as many games.

“And it’s nice to have a bit of competition for places in the middle of the park.

“Our front two have been quite quiet in the last two games, but they’ll want to bounce back like the rest of the lads and that’s the kind of attitude we need to get us back on course.”

Folkestone Invicta are in fourth-place in the table, with 11 wins, five draws and three defeats and are seven points adrift of league leaders Faversham Town.
