We need to take our chances, says Guest
Monday 22nd February 2010
LORDSWOOD have made an official seven-day approach for a midfielder and a striker to help put away some of the chances that are being squandered by the Kent League’s bottom side, writes Stephen McCartney.
Performances have improved under Guest and manager Jason Lillis in recent weeks, and Guest told www.lordswoodfc.co.uk, his frustration following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Fisher.
The Medway side would have climbed off the foot of the Bulmers Cider Kent League table had they won at Champion Hill, but chance-after-chance were missed and in the end they had to settle for a point.
They took the lead with a quality move down the left when Roy Guiver’s back heel was perfectly delivered into the box by Jamie Humphries for Luke Wallond to head home.
But Guest felt his side had done enough to clinch only their second league win of the season.
“Where do I begin with this one?” said Guest. “Fisher are just above us in the division and had we win we would be off the bottom off the table for the first time this season.
“Where we had been a little slow out of the blocks in the last couple of games, we were right at it from the off.
“The pitch was very boggy but the sun was shining. We worked hard and created chance after chance after chance.”
Explaining how he felt when his side were a goal-up, Walderslade based Guest said: ““My thoughts at this stage were we were going to score more and hopefully 3-0 so reversing the result at Martyn Grove at the beginning of the season.
“Still only one nil at half time but well in control of the game we came out for the second half and continued where we left off more chances until the last fifteen they made a couple of substitutions and changed their shape we then struggled to get the ball into the corners and turn them around, giving Fisher the chance to press us back to our box.
“The inevitable happened in the last 5 minutes with a speculative strike that Rowan Arnot had covered but stuck Nicky Berghauer and looped over Rowan and into the top corner.
Looking ahead to their next game, away to Deal Town tomorrow night, Guest takes some positives out of their capital gain.
“On a positive not we have only lost one in six,” he said. “We just need to convert some of the mirade of chances we have had.
“We are talking to a couple of players this week with a seven-day going in for one today so watch this space!”
