We owe Eastleigh one, says play-off dreaming Tony Burman
Sunday 13th March 2011
DARTFORD boss Tony Burman says he hasn’t ruled out a late surge towards the Blue Square Bet South play-off’s during the business end of the season, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Darts stretched their unbeaten run to four league games following their 2-2 draw at Basingstoke Town yesterday and are now in twelve place in the table with 40 points from 31 games - 17 points adrift of fifth-placed side Welling United, with 11 games left to play.
“Never say never, if we’re dreaming of the top five - we’ve now got 40 points; let’s get to 50 and then maybe 60 as soon as we can and see where that takes us,” said a grinning Burman, who's side have only lost once in the league in their last 12 outings.
“At the moment we can get nine points in a week so it changes from Saturday to Saturday - there’s a lot of people up there in those play-off places where it’s now coming towards panic time - do they or don’t they want to go up and are they going to perform or are they going to get too shaky and too desperate - who knows?
“But we’ve just got to keep plodding away and finish as high as we can and I’ve just said to the players that there’s 33 points still to play for and we want to win all of them and if we do who knows what might happen!”
Sixth-placed Eastleigh visit Princes Park on Tuesday night on the back of a 1-0 win at Bishop’s Stortford at the weekend and the Hampshire side are just one point behind Welling United, who were defeated by Dorchester Town at Park View Road.
Burman wants pay-back on Tuesday, after losing 3-0 at the Silverlake Stadium back in October.
“We owe them from our performance down there when we weren’t great on the day,” he said.
“They’ve had a great run to get in and around the play-off’s and we know t hat we’re in for a tough, tough game, but we’ve done all right against teams from the top so far at home and we know that Eastleigh will want the three points and that makes us more determined to get them ourselves.”
Dartford, meanwhile, confirmed today that their home clash against Lewes on 26 March will now kick-off at 1pm. This is due to the Wales-versus-England clash that starts in Cardiff at 3pm.
