We probably need three or four very good players to mount a challenge, says O'Boyle

ERITH TOWN boss Steve O’Boyle says he needs to bring in around four players to mount a serious challenge for the Kent League title next season, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Dockers are presently sitting in sixth place in the Bulmers Cider Kent League table with a record of 11 wins and 7 draws from their 27 league games – and O’Boyle wants his side to finish on a high-note.

They travel to Sevenoaks Town on Saturday before travelling to Herne Bay next Wednesday and finish their campaign at home to Hythe Town on 24 April.

“We’ll finish as high as we can,” O’Boyle told www.kentishfootball.co.uk. “I want us to finish in the top five."

Looking forward to their last three games of the season, O’Boyle said: “We’ve played Herne Bay, a decent footballing side, I thought we were more than a match for them at home.”

He added: “Sevenoaks have had a great season, they’ve got a Cup Final at the end of it.  Simon Jones there has done a great job.

“They’re three tough games aren’t they?  Everyone knows what’s Hythe are all about. Three tough games but we’ll try and win them all. That’s all we can do!”

O’Boyle admitted that he has learnt a lot from this season – and is already planning for next.

“I thought we assembled a decent squad in the summer,” he reflected.

“Some things never worked out and you learn from that. I’ve learnt quite a lot this year and I won’t make the same mistakes again.

“I’ve got a good bunch of lads actually.  The budget was cut ten weeks ago, the only person to walk out was Lee Coburn after about three or four weeks.  All the other boys said ‘we’ll take it on the chin, we haven’t been good enough this year’ and stayed.

“I’ve not had a problem with any of the boys whatsoever.”

Lewis Wood, 28, has signed for the club on a dual-registration deal with Ryman Premier League outfit Cray Wanderers.

And O’Boyle sees the striker as a long-term solution.

“Lewis Wood coming into the side is all about next year as well,” he revealed.  He’s a proven goalscorer at this level, but we probably need three or four players to maybe mount a challenge but they’ve got to be three or four very good players.”
