We're going for a treble too, says McMahon - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Whitstable Town can complete a unique treble if they beat Thamesmead Town in the Kent League Cup Final on Saturday - but Mead boss Keith McMahon wants to win a treble of his own, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Bayliss Avenue outfit have already picked up two trophies in the past five days - and McMahon wants his first team to follow suit.

On Monday night McMahon lead his youth side to victory in the Plaaya Cup Final, beating Tonbridge Angels 3-0 at the Betterview Longmead Stadium.

Then, 24-hours later, a brace from Steve Diamond helped the reserves lift the Kent League Reserve Division Cup after beating Deal Town 2-1 at Lordswood.

And McMahon wants his first team to finish off the job when they play Whitstable Town in the second time in seven days.

Last Saturday both sides shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Bayliss Avenue on the final day of the Kent League season, as the Oystermen celebrated winning their first ever Kent League title.

Whitstable also won the Kent Senior Trophy last month, beating a very good Bearsted side 1-0 at Dartford’s Princes Park Stadium.

But both Whitstable and Thamesmead go into Saturday’s game at Folkestone Invicta’s Buzzlines Stadium in Cheriton Road, aiming for the treble.

“I’m not really fussed about them winning the treble, I’m more fussed in us getting our first trophy this season,” McMahon said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“Whitstable have done a great achievement winning the double (but) we’ll be doing our best to stop them getting the treble.”

McMahon, who has a fully fit squad to choose from on Saturday, believes Thamesmead can clinch their third piece of silverware of the week.

And the reserves can complete a cup double over Deal Town when the two sides meet again, this time in the Kent Intermediate Cup Final, at the Charles Sports Ground next Saturday, 12^th May.

“It’s a big week for the club. The youth won the Plaaya Cup on Monday, the reserves won on Tuesday and we want to win on Saturday,” said McMahon.

“It will be a nice treble for us on Saturday, so it’s not the only treble for grabs.”
