We're going to Dartford to bring the Trophy back to Kent, says PC Steele

Monday 14th May 2012
KENT POLICE will be on the other side of the barrier when they visit Dartford’s Princes Park Stadium again tomorrow evening.

Members of the county’s Police force were in attendance for Dartford’s 1-0 win over Kent rivals Welling United in the Blue Square Bet South Play-Off Final yesterday afternoon, which was watched by a full-house, all-ticket crowd of 4,088.

But Kent Police’s football team lock horns against the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) on the Princes Park pitch on Tuesday, kicking off at 6pm, to contest the Police Service UK Cup Final.

Police Constable Grant Steele, who manages the Kent team, told www.kent.police.uk: “The team has worked hard to get to this final and we are going to Dartford to win.

“It’s taken us forty years to get to the final and it’s our aim to bring the trophy back to Kent.”

Kent Police beat West Midlands Police (who had knocked out holders Essex) in the semi-final at the UK Paper Leisure Ground, Sittingbourne with an impressive 4-0 win.

Former Dover Athletic keeper Kevin Readings, who is the Police Service’s national keeper, kept a clean-sheet and a hat-trick from striker Lee Preston sent Kent through.

A charity collection will be made upon entry to the stadium. The proceeds from this will go to the Kent Air Ambulance Service.
