We're happy with our season so far, says Hollands & Blair boss Paul Piggott

Friday 20th December 2013
HOLLANDS & BLAIR manager Paul Piggott says four of his players have turned down chances to leave the club.

The Gillingham-based outfit are two points clear at the top of the Kent Invicta League with 39 points from 15 games.

They travel to Sidcup to take on second-from-bottom Eltham Palace tomorrow – a side that have won two of their fourteen league games and have collected seven points.

Second-placed Lydd Town, meanwhile, travel to whipping boys Crockenhill tomorrow and Dave Smith’s side are expected to add to Crockenhill’s woes.

The Crocks have all sixteen league and cup games this season, conceding 100 goals in the process.

“We go into tomorrow’s game on the back of a good away win at Orpington last week so confidence is high among the players after a performance like that,” Piggott said of their 5-0 win.

“But Eltham had a good win themselves last week against Kent Football United so they’ll be on a high as well, so both teams will be looking to get the most out of the game.”

The Kent Invicta League shuts down over the festive period and Blair’s next game after tomorrow will be their home game against sixth-placed Fleet Leisure on 28 December.

Piggott said: “The Christmas period hasn’t really changed much this year for anyone in our league as we just play every Saturday as normal with no Boxing Day or New Years’ Day fixture.

“But it’s a time of year that everyone has too much to eat and drink so that will affect all players and results.”

Piggott revealed that some of his players have attracted interest from other clubs but he is pleased to report that they are staying loyal to the title-chasing club.

He said: “We’re happy with our season so far. We’re in both cups and sitting where any club would like to be.

“The players have put in a good shift to be where they are and are looking sharp.

“As a club we’ve just had our fourth seven-day approach for our players all of which have turned the clubs down, which is pleasing for me as a manager and shows the players are all pulling together to help achieve our goals for the end of the season.

“We’ve still got a lot of work to do but at this stage we’re happy with our lot.”
