We're not giving anything up, insists Ramsgate boss Jim Ward

Wednesday 04th January 2012
RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward says claiming a play-off place at the end of the season will prove difficult - but he will not throw in the towel.

The Rams collected three points from their three Christmas games as a win over Sittingbourne was sandwiched by defeats to Whitstable Town and Hythe Town.

They are slap-bag in midtable in the Ryman League Division One South table with 31 points from 23 games, sixteen points adrift of fifth-placed Maidstone United.

Ramsgate travel to league leaders Bognor Regis Town on Saturday, a side that should win the title, according to Ward.

He said: “They’re decent, aren’t they?  They’ll win it.  I don’t think anybody’s doubting the fact they’ll win it.  I think they’ll run away with it.

“We went down there last year and got a draw so we’re trying to be positive, take the game to them.”

Bognor Regis, who are unbeaten at home in the league, are two points clear of their Sussex rivals Whitehawk but have a game in hand.

When asked what his aspirations are for their remaining league games, Ward said: “Keep winning as many games as we can and see where it takes us.  Get as many points as we can and try to get around where we was last year.

“We ended up eighth last year, I think, or ninth.  If we get around there, we’ll have a go for the play-offs but we’re a bit out of reach of that.  We’re not giving anything up.

“We’ve got Bognor Regis, trying to get something out of that and go from there.”
