RUSTHALL manager Gary Sharman says his side will be fighting fit when they kick-off their league campaign on Saturday. The Rustics travel to Charlton to play Bridon Ropes on the opening day of their Kent Invicta League campaign looking to get off to a winning start.
Bridon Ropes finished in seventh-place last season, whilst Rusthall finished fifth-from-bottom under their previous management team.
“We’re hoping for a positive start to the season,” said new boss Sharman.
“Three wins in three, we’ll be more than pleased with that at the start of the season, that’s our aim.
“We’ll try to get the first three and move on from that. We’ve got a couple of players missing as well.”
Sharman has brought in a fitness coach who has got his players’ fit in an unique manner.
“We’ve introduced different training sessions with a little bit of Thai boxing,” revealed Sharman.
“It’s basically about building up your shin strengths really. It’s just something we’ve brought in with a guy called Sammit Murnramon who is an ex-Thai boxing world champion. And we do a bit of upper body work with him during the week.
“It’s all about fitness. We’re not going to kick people. It’s about strength. You don’t actually kick with the feet, it’s all shin work, just to strengthen up the boys basically.
“They’re going to come up against some strength during the season so we’ll be prepared, fit and ready for it.”
When asked about the club’s aspirations, Sharman revealed he will go down the local route.
He said: “I wasn’t here last season so I am aware that Rusthall struggled but there’s so much local talent in and around Kent that we’ve got it on the doorstep so we’re looking for local talent.
“We’ll probably have a younger squad than last season and that something that we can build on and we can have a good season from it.”
