We're playing for pride now, admits Ward

RAMSGATE boss Jim Ward was in defiant mood ahead of Saturday’s home match against Walton & Hersham, writes Paul Parkinson.
The Rams suffered a 1-0 defeat at relegation threatened Whitstable Town on Tuesday night and Ward told www.kentishfootball.co.uk: “I look forward to every game, but we‘re playing for pride now. We‘re blowing hot and cold at the minute, but we‘re trying to take this team forward.
“We‘re so young, trying to build on the youth and obviously it‘s inconsistent. The 2 centre-halves were 18 and the forwards 17 and 18, but no excuse.”
Ward, whose side are a disappointing fourteenth with 44 points from 34 games, spoke about his current injury situation.
“We‘’ll have to wait and see about the injuries,” Ward added,“Having had to take both forwards off at half-time against Whitstable, “they (Joe Taylor and Gary Lockyer) weren‘t getting a lot of protection and both had to come off injured; both got kicks.””
The visitors to Southwood, Walton & Hersham, will be in a determined mood to get their play-off ambitions back on track after a 3-0 home defeat by league leaders Croydon Athletic.
But, Ramsgate will be able to take heart from the 2-2 gained at Stompond Lane earlier in the season and although the play-offs might be out of reach now, it‘s another chance for this young side to push on for next year.
