We're playing well as a team, says Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says he is reaping the rewards of keeping the pressure of his side, writes Stephen McCartney.

Last night’s 2-1 win at Leatherhead (courtesy of goals from Simon Austin and James Everitt), puts the club joint-top with leaders Worthing, although Cugley’s side have two games in hand over the west Sussex outfit.

“How was the game? How did we play? We played well, we played very well actually,” Cugley told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.

“We played, sometimes the way, we played better against the wind than we did with it, but we played well.  I’m obviously delighted with the result, it was very pleasing!”

He added: “All we can keep doing is keep getting results.  I keep saying there’s no pressure on our players.  We’ll keep enjoying it, that’s all we can do.

“I think the stronger sides will come through really, with your Croydon’s and that, your Worthing’s, they will have the say in the end really.  We’ll just keep going, that’s all we can do.”

Folkestone Invicta welcome two mid-table sides in Burgess Hill Town (Saturday) and the visit of Ramsgate next Tuesday night.

“I think to be fair we’ve got two hard ones, Burgess Hill and Ramsgate,” said Cugley.  “They’ve both got very experienced players, they know the league very well, both on a bit of a run at the moment so they’ll be hard, hard games.

“We’ll just get on with it really, just trying to win the games and keep everything ticking along and keep everyone happy and that makes it enjoyable for everybody.

“I’m looking forward to them, we’re playing some good football, it’s enjoyable.”

When asked which players have impressed him so far this season, Cugley replied, “To be honest, I’ve got to say everyone’s been doing so well, that’s why we’re winning the games.

“It’s not individual, defensively we’ve been strong all year (conceding only 8 goals in 16 league games), Jack Delo (goalkeeper) has been good, our midfield of Smithy (Darren Smith), Jacko (Jimmy Jackson) and Mev (Micheal Everitt) is very good and to be fair we’re scoring goals now and James Everitt is doing well.

“The reason we’re getting results is because we’re playing well as a team.  I don’t think we’ve got one individual, we do well as a whole unit really.”

Cugley is expected to field the same squad for as long as he possibly can, but announced some good news concerning long-term injury victim, striker James Dryden.

“He’s very close now, he’s had the ok now from the specialist and he will be involved in December, that would be good for us, gives us a big lift,” added Cugley.
