We're punching above our weight, admits high-flying Jones
Thursday 31st December 2009
SEVENOAKS TOWN boss Simon Jones admits his side are punching above their weight, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Greatness Park outfit go into the New Year sitting in the lofty heights of third in the Bulmers Cider Kent League table, with a record of seven wins and three draws from 14 league games.
They are eleven points behind league leaders Faversham Town, but Jones, speaking to www.sevenoakstownfc.org, admits his side haven’t faired well against other top sides.
“It certainly makes it interesting and it’s really good to be where we are,” Jones said.
“Now we are there, let’s enjoy it. It gives us something to work to, and we want to stay there.
“I do feel we are punching above our weight, and my only regret is that we have failed to beat one of the teams in the top half so far.
“We have beaten Holmesdale and Corinthian (twice), won at Lordswood and Fisher and at home to Sporting Bengal, but lost against Erith Town, Herne Bay, Faversham and Erith & Belvedere.”
Jones takes his side to Bourne Park, Sittingbourne on Saturday, to hopefully play (at the third attempt) their Kent Senior Trophy Second Round tie away to Vandanel Kent County League minnows Milton & Fulston United.
He said: “Staying in cup competitions is also important because we play more games and it would add much to our season, and hopefully attract more people through the gate.
