We're quite capable of gonig to Dover and beating them, says Tommy Warrilow

TONBRIDGE ANGELS boss Tommy Warrilow is threatening to wield the axe after crashing to a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Kent rivals Bromley yesterday.



Goals from Mike Jones, Aaron Rhule and a screamer from Joe Pigott gave Mark Goldberg’s side a comphrensive victory at Longmead Stadium.

The Angels climbed from 18^th to 12^th following their battling 2-1 home win over bitter-rivals Dover Athletic on Boxing Day, but slipped back down to fifteenth-place in the Blue Square Bet South table with 23 points from 20 games.

Warrilow takes his side to Crabble for their return game against Dover Athletic on New Years’ Day and said: “They’ll be looking at this, they won’t need a team talk but we’ll go there and hopefully we’ll play well. If we’re going to lose, play well losing and get some positives out of it.

“They were positives out of it (against Bromley).  There was David (Ijaha) that came on but we’re grasping at straws again if I say if we put this away and put that away.  We had chances to score and didn’t and all the time it was 1-0 in the first half I felt we had a couple of chances to make it one-all before they got their second goal and the second goal came from one of them.

“It’s just the little fine divides that are splitting us from a little bit of inconsistency and that’s what I’ve got to sort out.”

Warrilow handed Ijaha his debut after coming on as a 62^nd minute substitute, having signed the midfielder from St Albans City.

The Angels boss said he will show one player the door soon to be able to bring in fresh blood.

“David’s going to start (against Dover).  I’ve not brought him in here to sit on the bench. It will upset a few people that won’t start, that’s tough, but David will come in and he will start.

“There will be some changes because we played well against Dover, everyone gave their all, but I just felt with the ball we’ve got to do a lot more and that was against Dover as well, but yesterday we never really penetrated them enough so there will be changes and I will be looking to bring another couple of players in.

“I’ve got to speak to a player about releasing him but that’s what I’ve got to do, whether I’m right or wrong that’s what I’m judged on.

“The boys’ have had a chance here, they’ve had a fair crack of the whip, but it’s just been frustrating but also it’s bene very inconsistent.

“It was a good result for Bromley, three points shoots you up, so it’s important not to throw it completely out of pespective, but it’s important for me to bring in a couple of fresh faces in and that’s what I’m in the process of trying to do.”

Warrilow will raise his troops to go in another battle to claim another victory against Nicky Forster’s side on New Years’ Day.

He said: “You never know, that’s the sort of thing we’re capable of doing.

“No disrespect you look at Dover twice and Bromley, you think you’d get something out of the Bromley game. We’ve got no inferority complex with any sides in here and we’re quite capable of going to Dover and beating them on the day. If I didn’t believe that I wouldn’t be managing here.”

Warrilow has been in charge at Tonbridge Angels for over five years’ and is the man that has guided the club to their highest level of football in the modern era.

He said: “It’s mad. That’s why I expect critisim and everythnig evertime we lose you’re going to get a few people go over the top. Five years’ of being here I’m getting used to it!

“I’ll get it right. I’ll bring players in. I’ll let players go out.

“We’ve played a strong Bromley side, who have invested heavily financially and they’ve got a good squad. I said before the game they’re a good team and Dover are the same.

“We’re competing against some big clubs and even the chairman said to me on Saturday we are punching over our weght and I think people should stop and reflect on that.

“We’re not a massive club any more. We’ve got no devine right to turn up and win a game of football.  I’ll push the boys all the way but we’ve got some very good players here, but the difference at this level is so do all the other teams we are playing and that’s what people lose focus on.”
