We're sorry to see you leave, says Chats chairman
CHATHAM TOWN chairman Jeff Talbot is sorry to see highly-rated goalkeeper John Whitehouse leave the club to join their Ryman League Division One South rivals Dover Athletic.
Whitehouse signed for Andy Hessenthaler’s side last Friday and kept a clean sheet in his first game for his new side - a 3-0 home win over Whyteleafe the following day.
And Mr Talbot wishes the former Greenwich Borough, Ashford Town and Tunbridge Wells stopper all the very best at his new club.
“During his time at Chatham John has proven to be one of the best keepers in the League and was always destined to play at a higher level,” the chairman told www.chathamtownfc.net.
“We wish John all the best for the future both on and off the pitch. Our best wishes also go to John’s best two supporters, his Mum and Dad who follow him.
“At this point in time Chatham have an abundance of good and promising keepers ready to step up to the challenge and hence we will not be looking for an immediate replacement.”
Chatham welcome Worthing to Maidstone Road tonight (7:45pm).
Dover Athletic boss Andy Hessenthaler, who takes his side to Surrey tonight to play Walton Casuals, was delighted to sign Whitehouse, who turned down a move to Folkestone Invicta last season.
The goalkeeper virtually single-handedly stopped Dover racking up a cricket score at Crabble earlier in the season as Chatham grabbed a 1-0 win and played a blinder in Chatham’s recent 3-1 win against the Whites at Maidstone Road.
The Medway side are the only team to defeat Dover Athletic in the League this season.
“He was outstanding against us,” Hessenthaler told www.doverathletic.com “We’ve been looking for another keeper, alongside Dean (Ruddy).
“It’s competition for places and John’s a very good keeper.
"I’m pleased we’ve got him. We had David (Wilkinson), he done very well.”
