We should have more points, admits injured skipper Denly

WHITSTABLE TOWN boosted their survival hopes with a much-needed 1-0 home win over Chipstead at the weekend, writes Stephen McCartney.

Manager Mark Munday urged his side to keep things tight at the back, which they did, and Ian Pulman’s late winner sealed the points.

The Oystermen are one place (and three points) clear of the Ryman League Division One South relegation zone, and their survival bid looks set to go right down to the wire with fourteen nerve-jangling games left to play.

“I had a good feeling about this game and the longer it went on I just felt that if we kept it tight at the back we would get a result,” Munday told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“We should have put the game to bed early in the second half.”

Whitstable were without influential skipper Sam Denly, who watched the game with his foot encased in plaster, after picking up an injury during last week’s 3-0 defeat at Fleet Town.

“I am not very good at watching the game,” Denly bemoaned, when speaking to www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“You would think as I have suffered so much over the years with injuries that I should be used to it by now, but I am not.

“Hopefully I should be ready to resume training in about four weeks, but it will be four weeks too long as far as I’m concerned.

“Despite the way results have been going, and if you have watched all our games, we should have six or nine points more than we have by now."
