We've got a chance to put it right at Hayes Lane, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

The Ravens came away from Longmead Stadium with a goalless draw against their Kent rivals Tonbridge Angels, a side in the bottom seven in the Ryman Premier League.

Both on-loan teenage goalkeepers were impressive.  Bromley handed Craig King, 17, his debut after bringing him in from League Two side Luton Town, although Goldberg is expected to recall first choice keeper Seb Brown, who served his one-match ban yesterday, for the replay.

Tonbridge Angels’ keeper, Thomas Hadler, 18, who is on loan from League One Gillingham, produced a world-class save to deny Joe Anderson.

Both sides created chances to win it – Louis Dennis’ curling shot crashed against the bar for Bromley and Tommy Whitnell and Alex Teniola forced decent saves from King.

Bromley are unbeaten on their travels this season, but Goldberg admitted yesterday that, “we have some sort of divine right to just turn up and to win a game.  I want us to learn a hard lesson.”

Bromley are sitting in second-place in the Vanarama Conference South table with 30 points from 16 games, six points behind Boreham Wood, with two games in hand.

But the Ravens have a 50% record at Hayes Lane in the league and Goldberg wants his club to extend their impressive record against the Angels to progress through to the first round.

Bromley have lost once in fifteen games against Tonbridge, including yesterday, since the turn of the century.

The last time Tonbridge Angels beat Bromley at Hayes Lane was back in November 1994, winning a Kent Senior Cup First Round tie 4-3.

However, the Angels go into Tuesday’s game having not conceded a goal in 412 minutes, keeping four clean sheets on the bounce.

“I’m happy now that we’re still in the competition and we’re at home and we have another chance to make sure that we go through to the next round,” said Goldberg.

“Hopefully there will be a big crowd as well so we’ll turn a slight negative hopefully.

“We’ve got a chance to put it right and to have another game at Hayes Lane.

“I think we’ll go into the game on Tuesday knowing that they’re going to be very, very tough opposition and hopefully we’ll certainly start the right way this week.”

Goldberg has been pleased with Jamie Slabber’s form while coming off the bench in recent weeks, but when asked whether he’ll make changes on Tuesday night and start with the former Sutton United striker, the boss replied: “Don’t know at this moment in time. I’ll think about it over the weekend.”

The Ravens are unbeaten on their travels this season, but have lost half of their eight league games at Hayes Lane.

“The most important thing is that we’ve kept a clean sheet. We’ve come away from Tonbridge totally respecting the opposition and knowing that we’ve got another opportunity.

“I suppose on paper we should be favourites but it’s a cup competition. We’ll be going into the game not assuming we’re favourites, that’s for sure.”
