We've got a good chance of finishing quite high, says Wells boss Martin Larkin

TUNBRIDGE WELLS manager Martin Larkin says he wants his side to keep their winning mentality going for the visit of VCD Athletic on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Wells stretched their unbeaten run to six games following their emphatic 5-0 win at struggling Fisher last Monday and welcome Ricky Bennett’s fourth-placed side to Culverden Stadium in a confident mood.
“VCD are a really good side, I like the way they play,” said Larkin.
“They’ve got some very good players down there and we have to be at our very best again.
“We’ve had a couple of good results against them this year in the league and the Cup so it’s about creating that atmosphere again and making sure that we play well. If we do then we’ve got half a chance because they’re a very good side.
“They had a very good result on Saturday at Hythe (a 1-1 draw), so it will be a very tough game.”
Holmesdale then visit Culverden Stadium next Tuesday, fresh from the turgid Kent Senior Trophy Semi-Final clash between the two sides a couple of weeks ago, which Tunbridge Wells won courtesy of Keelan Mooney’s last-gasp winner.
“I’m sure they will be motivated for it, whether it’s to make amends or not, I don’t know really,” Larkin said of next week’s Kent League clash.
“People see the game differently but I thought we deserved to win. They will think they’d deserved to win.”
Holmesdale coaches Grant Watts and Ross Mitchell both criticised the Culverden Stadium pitch following their defeat on 5 March and Larkin said: “I’m sure they will be looking forward to a trip down to our place on a Tuesday night. I heard they thought our pitch weren’t up to it, which was wrong to be honest. The pitch is absolutely fine. There’s nothing wrong with our pitch.”
Kent Senior Trophy Finalists, Tunbridge Wells are presently sitting in eighth place in the Kent League table with 29 points from 19 games and Larkin says his side are more than capable of rising up the table for their last 11 league games.
“A lot of our games are against teams below us so it’s all about building momentum now,” said Larkin.
“We’ve got a very good goal difference so we can keep building the momentum up, we’ll keep ticking the games off and then we’ve got a good chance of finishing quite high.”
