We've got to avoid being in a relegation fight, says Bromley boss Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg says he wants to avoid being involved in another relegation battle.



The Ravens’ run of recent good form has taken them into eleventh-place in the Blue Square Bet (Conference) South with 28 points from 21 games.

They are five points behind fifth-placed Farnborough, who occupy the final play-off berth and are three points clear of third-from-bottom Sutton United.

Goldberg, who has guided the Hayes Lane outfit into the FA Cup First Round on four occasions over the past six years’, led Bromley into the last sixteen of The FA Carlsberg Trophy for the very first time in the club’s history.

Wins over Staines Town (their first in the competition since 2007) and Boreham Wood (both in away replay’s) was followed by a giant-killing over former winners Kidderminster Harriers, but they went out to Blue Square Bet Premier neighbours Dartford on Saturday, going down to a 4-2 defeat in a game littered by costly defensive mistakes.

French striker, Pierre Joseph-Dubois scored two goals to take his goalscoring tally to eleven for the season at Princes Park, but Dartford punished sloppy defending by the men in red.

Dominic Green, 23, scored two goals within 34 minutes into his Dartford debut, having arrived on a one-month loan from League Two side Dagenham & Redbridge to give Dartford a 2-1 lead at the break.

Lee Burns came up from right-back to notch the third within six minutes of the second half, before former Southend United striker Harry Crawford notched Dartfords’ fourth, before Joseph-Dubois poked home his second with twenty minutes left.

Goldberg takes his side to 12^th placed Bath City on Tuesday night, followed by a trip to Dover Athletic on Saturday.

Dover Athletic found themselves 5-0 down at half-time to Farnborough in Hampshire at the weekend, before clawing back a couple of goals, courtesy of strike partnership Billy Bricknell and Ben May.

Goldberg said: “I don’t think there’s a lot to change. I can’t complain. I’m happy. All in all if we play like that at Bath I think we can go down there and get a result.”

The club has been forced to slash their budget to balance the books with some high profile departures in recent weeks with strikers Richard Pacquette (Eastleigh) and Michael Malcolm (Whitehawk) being shown the door.

“Our budget has to stay tight and we have to see how we progress,” said Goldberg.

“In the next few weeks we’re going in to the reminder of the season a lot more confident than how we started the season.

“You could see we’ve got a formation that seems to be working and we’ve got to cut out the lapses of concentration.”

Supporters insist the team have been underperforming during the course of the last 12 months with the players that they have on their books.

Goldberg said: “We’ve got to avoid being in a relegation fight.  That’s the priority now and if at the end of the season we’ve got a shout for something to go for that would be tremendous.

“We’ve got lots of games coming up and we’re not looking in too bad shape.”
