We've got to be more motivated and work harder to get results, says Cray boss Ian Jenkins

CRAY WANDERERS boss Ian Jenkins says his side must go that extra yard if they are to keep their place in the Ryman Premier League play-off zone, writes Stephen McCartney.
The long-serving legendary boss guided the Hayes Lane based side into second place with a comfortable 2-0 home win over struggling Hastings United last Saturday, with ten-men, but they slipped down a place when Bury Town leapfrogged over them with a victory over another struggling side, Aveley, a couple of days later.
The club have never been so high in the football pyramid and Jenkins takes his side to Carshalton Athletic on Saturday.
The Robins are presently in seventh place in the table with nine wins and three draws from their 20 league outings and are only three points behind fifth-placed AFC Hornchurch.
Jenkins warned: “It will be tough! There’s no easy games in this division.
“Obviously we’re flying high so teams will obviously want to put one over us so we’ve got to be more motivated and work harder a little bit to get results away from home.
“I’m confident with the squad I’ve got but with Wills (Mark Willy) missing it will be a big miss, but I’ve got a good squad.”
The goalscoring prowess of Frenchman, Laurent Hamici, 23, has certainly helped the club’s rise up the table and it seems the unity within the camp is back - a trademark of Jenkins, his assistant Joe Francis and Paul Blade.
“I think supporters are looking at that and saying that’s fantastic, but I know what I’ve got,” added Jenkins.
“I’ve been here a long time, I’ve had some great sides come though. I’ve got a great management behind me. We know what we’ve got in our dressing room so where we are ain’t false!”
Jenkins wants to end the club’s 150th anniversary year by clinching the Ryman Premier League title.
“Hopefully we’re in this position with a few weeks of the season. We don’t really want to be falling out of the play-off places,” said Jenkins.
“We want to be cracking on. We’re sitting third - that can all change - but if we win our games we will be there or there abouts.
“If we finish in the play-off places I think we’re strong enough, whatever place we finish. If we do finish in the play-off places I’m confident we’ll get a result.
“Home advantage might matter to bigger clubs than us who have got their own grounds - but we’re good enough on the road. We have been all season.”
