We've got to string a couple of results together, says McMahon
THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Keith McMahon has drafted striker Steve White in from his loan spell with Croydon for the clash against Northwood at Bayliss Avenue tonight, writes Stephen McCartney.
Depleted Mead have five players missing for the Ryman League Division One North clash as they bid to bounce back from disappointing exits in both the FA Cup and FA Carlsberg Trophy.
Thamesmead lost their first ever FA Carlsberg Trophy tie, going out 2-1 at fellow league rivals, East Thurrock United in the preliminary round at the weekend.
A last minute Max Cornhill winner broke Thamesmead’s hearts, but McMahon admitted his side switched off from the free-kick that led to the winning goal.
“We played a lot better and went out to a last minute goal,” McMahon told www.kentishfootball.co.uk at half-past-two this afternoon.
“Never a free-kick to be fair, the referee gave it and we sort of switched off. A bit disappointing, it’s the fourth time this season that we’ve conceded a last minute goal.
“The wind was really strong, East Thurrock are a really good side. We were the better side in the second half and a draw was a fair result - but we got caught with a last minute goal.”
Northwood can jump four places into fifth in the table with a victory at Bayliss Avenue, but McMahon wants his side to prevent that happening and his side to get their season back on track.
“We’re a few games behind in the league so it gives us a chance to claw points from sides (above us), said McMahon, whose side are in the bottom seven with two wins and two draws from eight games.
“They’ve got games in hand, only a couple of points above us so they could move into the top five if they win so it’s going to be a tough one tonight.
“We’ve got to string a couple of results together. It’s going to be tough, but if we play well, we’ve got a chance.”
Lewis Tozer (illness), Pedro Knight (hamstring), Scot Mulholland (knee ligaments), Lew Watts (knee) and James Brown (shingles) have all been ruled out tonight.
This gives youngsters Bradley Killick, Lee Dawson and Chris Borhescu to stake their claim in the side and when asked if the experienced, strong striker White will start, McMahon replied: “Don’t know. I doubt it.”
