We've got very little to lose against Hungerford Town, says Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley
Friday 01st November 2013
FOLKESTONE INVICTA are back in FA Trophy action tomorrow when they face Calor (Southern) Premier League outfit Hungerford Town. After beating Kingstonian – twice previous winners – in the last round, Neil Cugley’s side have nothing to fear in taking on higher league opposition once again.
Hungerford Town currently sit in tenth-place in the table, largely on the back of six straight wins throughout September, but they have lost three times in seven games since then – most recently going down 2-0 at home to Redditch United on Tuesday, a side they had thrashed 5-0 away from home at the start of that winning run.
Invicta boss Cugley told www.folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk: “We’ve found out a fair bit about them, but I know they’ve watched us too – though we’ve been so inconsistent that I don’t know which Folkestone they’ve seen.
“I love these games. The higher the opposition the better. It tests you, but all the pressure is on the higher league team and we’ve got very little to lose.”
Cugley added: “Of course we want to go further – and hopefully at the first attempt as we don’t really fancy a 290-mile round trip for a replay in midweek.”
Folkestone Invicta are now in fifteenth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table.
“It has to be seen as an upset if we beat them, but not as big a shock as it was us beating Kingstonian, who are right up there near the top of the Ryman Premier,” said Cugley.
Striker Paul Booth, meanwhile, is cup-tied and there is another £3,250 in prize money for the winners and Folkestone’s target is to reach the Third Qualifying Round for the first time since 1999.
Skrill (Conference) South clubs – such as neighbours Dover Athletic - enter at that stage of the competition.
