ASHFORD TOWN will be changing its name to mark a new era in its history as the club’s rebirth gathers pace, writes Jack Wilson.
Club officials have been working feverishly over the past weeks to ensure all things are set for next season, although for things to proceed any more a new name for the club is needed.
In a statement, owner Tony Betteridge told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk on Monday: “Things have been progressing really well. We’ve got a group of people enthusiastic about Ashford football in our committee and have been working our socks off to get things sorted for next season.
“We have to change the name Ashford Town (Kent) as it’s too similar to the old Ashford Town. With a new name in place things should start to pick up and hopefully we’ll have more news to announce soon, including the new name of the club, once we’ve decided it!”
Chairman Ernie Warren echoed Betteridge’s sentiments.
He said: “It’s very exciting times for this club and the name change is just one of them. We want a club that Ashford can be proud of and this is just another step on the road to playing football next season."
