We want to get the habit of winning games, says Ebbsfleet United boss Liam Daish
The Fleet were beating the west London side on New Years’ Day, courtesy of Michael West’s goal, but the game was abandoned after just twenty minutes due to a waterlogged pitch at Kingfield Stadium.
Ebsfleet United go into the re-match sitting in a respectable fifteenth place on their return to the Blue Square Bet Premier with 31 points from 21 games – nine points clear of the relegation zone.
Hayes & Yeading, meanwhile, are second-from-bottom with 21 points from 28 games.
Daish said: “On Tuesday, we’ve got to start the job again. We don’t start the game where we left off (after twenty minutes), but the lads’ will take great heart from our performance yesterday and we want to get the habit of winning games.
“We’ve got another opportunity on Tuesday, so we’re looking forward to it.”
The Fleet booked their place in the last sixteen of The FA Carlsberg Trophy with a 3-2 home win over Chester yesterday, courtesy of goals from Calum Willock, Yado Mambo and Ricky Shakes.
Speaking about team personnel for Tuesday’s game, Daish revealed: “Both Liam Enver-Marum and I are back after our suspensions, glad to get them out of the way, but we’re going to lose two players before then.
“Ian Simpemba has done me a favour by sitting on the bench (against Chester), but will be joining Dover on Monday for a nominal fee and Jamie Darvill told me about ten days ago that he’s off to take up a scholarship in the States. I’d like to wish them all the best. They’ve been great to have around, had great character and have served the club well.”
Daish added: “There may be a young player coming in, maybe a goalkeeping cover, but we’ve got a call-back in place on Joe Welch (who has gone out on loan to Bromley).
“He needed to get some games and the club has had to cut its cloth financially, which we’ve done.
“I’d liked to have been able to bring someone in without letting anyone go, but that’s the way it is. The club needed this (FA Trophy win), the players have given the club a boost financially.”
Dublin-born Defender, Simpemba, 28, came through the Wycombe Wanderers Centre of Excellence, playing alongside Fleet assistant manager Paul McCarthy, winning caps for the Republic of Ireland’s under 17-under 21 teams.
He was loaned out twice to Woking to gain experience but returned to Wycombe to play 20 League games in 2003-04.
He opted to join Crawley Town – where he grew up – in 2004 and was club captain and player of the year in his two seasons there. He was loaned out to Aldershot Town in 2006 before joining Lewes and becoming a mainstay in their promotion campaign to the Conference in 2008. After playing more than 80 games for the East Sussex outfit, he was one of a host of players to exit the club during its troubles that summer and he joined Havant & Waterlooville and was made captain in 2009.
The central defender found a new job in Kent forcing his departure from the Hampshire club in 2011 and Daish moved quickly to secure his services and experience in July 2011.
He made a total of 17 Conference Premier starts for the Stonebridge Road outfit this season.
Meanwhile, regarding speculation concerning home-grown youngsters West and Tom Phipp being watched by scouts, Daish remarked the pair are staying at Stonebridge Road.
He said: “If people come in for our players, they do, there’s nothing I can do about it. Nothing has been spoken about and we’ve had no enquiries.”
